Come along and enjoy an afternoon of artistic exploration, where you’ll learn valuable techniques, unleash your creativity, and leave with a beautiful landscape painting that showcases your newfound skills!
This course is perfect for beginners and improvers who want to explore the nuanced techniques of underpainting and glazes while creating a stunning landscape painting. No prior painting experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and creativity!
Glazing Techniques: Explore the art of glazes, adding translucent layers to create luminosity and atmosphere in your paintings.
Dry Brushing Mastery: Learn the delicate technique of dry brushing, adding texture and highlighting details in your landscape.
Brushwork Variations: Experiment with different brushstrokes, discovering how brushwork influences the mood and style of your painting.
Mark Making: Develop your personal artistic signature through mark-making, adding character and expression to your landscapes.
Landscape Creation: Apply the techniques learned to create a beautiful landscape painting that reflects your unique style and creativity.
All materials provided
Suitable for ages 16+
Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon but lunch is not provided. There is a cafe on site, and The Drum pub is within a short walk from the studio, or feel free to bring a packed lunch.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Craft Centre Car Park: Open 7am – 7pm, parking charges apply, please bring cash), and the number 62 Torquay to Cockington bus stops at Cockington Village.

Textiles Illustration

Textiles is a versatile medium, great for creating artwork as well as embellishing home furnishings and clothing. In this workshop you will learn to use appliqué, basic embroidery stitches and beading to create your own decorative fabric cupcake illustration.

Pointillism in Acrylics

Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.

Get started with Oil Paints

Starting out with Oils can be a daunting prospect, but with just a few basics you can unlock the potential of this rich and exciting medium.
In this beginners workshop we will be getting to grips with oil painting. You will gain understanding of the paints, learn about colour mixing and basic application techniques, and receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own still life painting.

Mastering Reflections | Large Scale Charcoal Drawing

In this workshop we will be getting messy with large-scale charcoal drawings.
Working at A1 in scale we will be looking at reflection and the refraction of light on glass as well studying the way in which glass objects interact with positive and negative space.
