Oils | Landscapes 101
@ Cockington Court, Torquay Sunday 21st June, 11:00 - 16:30 Full Day £79
This full day workshop takes place at the beautiful Cockington Court in Torquay and is suitable for beginners and improvers. It offers a comprehensive introduction to oil landscape painting, covering the core skills and techniques you need to get started with confidence.
Working step by step, you will be guided through the fundamental building blocks of landscape painting. We will look at how to simplify the landscape into manageable shapes, how to plan a composition, and how to use tone and colour to create a convincing sense of depth and space.
Throughout the day, you will explore key oil painting techniques including colour mixing, layering and brushwork, gaining an understanding of how paint can be handled to describe skies, land and natural textures. Demonstrations and guided exercises will support you as you develop your painting, with plenty of individual guidance along the way.
By the end of the workshop, you will have created a completed landscape painting and gained practical skills that you can continue to build on in your own work. All materials are provided.
Course Highlights
Landscape Foundations: Learn how to break down the landscape into simple shapes and forms.
Composition Basics: Explore how to plan and position elements for a balanced painting.
Tone and Depth: Use value to create distance, atmosphere and spatial depth.
Oil Painting Techniques: Explore layering, blending and brushwork.
Texture and Surface: Suggest natural textures such as foliage, sky and ground.
Step by Step Guidance: Build your painting through supported exercises and demonstrations.
Finished Landscape Painting: Create a resolved oil landscape to take home.
