In this beginners workshop we will be getting to grips with oil painting. You will gain understanding of the paints, surfaces and brushes, learn about colour mixing and basic application techniques, and receive step-by-step guidance in working through a range of exercises chosen to give you the skills that you need to get started.
Suitable for beginners - come and have a go!
We will cover all the materials and equipment needed to get started with this versatile medium, including paints, mediums, brushes and canvases, before going on to under paint our canvases in preparation.
To ease you into working with oils we will work through a series of quick practical exercises covering basic skills such colour mixing and blending techniques.
3:00pm (ish) - We will draw a still life image (from a selection provided) on to our under painted canvases and get painting, applying our newly gained skills and knowledge. I will be there to guide, support and encourage you throughout the day.
4:15pm - We will cover how to clean brushes/work stations, before a photo opportunity to show off your newly created masterpieces.
4:30pm - Head home with a completed painting ready to show off to your friends and family, and hang in pride of place.
All materials provided
Suitable for ages 16+
Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon but lunch is not provided.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Craft Centre Car Park: Open 7am – 7pm, parking charges apply, please bring cash)
Cancellation Policy: Payments are not refundable but are transferable. Please give 2 weeks notice if you wish to transfer to a different date. I will always try my hardest to honour a workshop, but if for any reason the workshop has to be postponed (i.e. a global pandemic!), you will be offered the option of a full refund.

Textiles Illustration

Textiles is a versatile medium, great for creating artwork as well as embellishing home furnishings and clothing. In this workshop you will learn to use appliqué, basic embroidery stitches and beading to create your own decorative fabric cupcake illustration.

Pointillism in Acrylics

Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.

Mastering Reflections | Large Scale Charcoal Drawing

In this workshop we will be getting messy with large-scale charcoal drawings.
Working at A1 in scale we will be looking at reflection and the refraction of light on glass as well studying the way in which glass objects interact with positive and negative space.
