Linocut Printmaking | Printing in Layers
@ Cockington Court, Torquay
2026 Dates TBC
Full Day
£79
Set in the peaceful grounds of beautiful Cockington Court in Torquay, this full-day workshop is a friendly and practical introduction to linocut printmaking—perfect for beginners and those with a little experience looking to learn more.

In this workshop, we’ll be focusing on printing in layers, a technique that lets you build up your image one colour at a time. You’ll learn how to break down an image into separate colour plates and how to line them up so your final print is neat and well-aligned. We’ll also take a quick look at where linocut printmaking came from and how artists have used it over the years.

You’ll get to know the different carving tools, learn how to use them safely and effectively, and explore the kinds of marks and textures they can make. We’ll then move on to printing your design—using both a tabletop press and handheld barens—so you’ll get to try out a few different methods and find what works best for you.

Whether you’re totally new to printmaking or want to build on the basics, this workshop is a great place to start. You’ll leave with your own multi-layered print and the know-how to carry on printing at home.

Pointillism in Acrylics
Sun, 18 August, 13:30 – 16:30
The Court Street Gallery, Trowbridge
Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.
