Throughout the day, you will explore the unique qualities of gelli plate printing, learning how to build images through layering, pattern and mark making. Working with acrylic paints, you will experiment with a range of tools and materials to create texture, from rollers and brushes to found objects, stencils and natural forms.
You will be guided through a series of demonstrations and hands on exercises, discovering how to create monoprints, ghost prints and multi layered compositions. We will look at how colour combinations, transparency and print sequencing affect the final outcome, allowing you to work both intuitively and intentionally.
As the day progresses, you will develop a collection of prints, culminating in a series of resolved pieces that showcase the techniques explored. This workshop is a great introduction to printmaking and a fantastic way to loosen up your creative process. All materials are provided.
Layering Techniques: Build depth through layered colour, pattern and texture.
Tools and Textures: Experiment with rollers, brushes, stencils and found materials to create unique surfaces.
Monoprints and Ghost Prints: Discover how to pull multiple prints from the same plate.
Colour Exploration: Explore transparency, colour mixing and sequencing.
Creative Play: Work intuitively and experimentally in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Finished Print Series: Develop a collection of layered prints to take home.
Suitable for ages 16+
Refreshments will be available throughout the day but lunch is not provided. There are a selection of cafes within a short walk from the studio, or feel free to bring a packed lunch.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Court Street Car Park: Parking charges apply)

Textiles Illustration

Textiles is a versatile medium, great for creating artwork as well as embellishing home furnishings and clothing. In this workshop you will learn to use appliqué, basic embroidery stitches and beading to create your own decorative fabric cupcake illustration.

Pointillism in Acrylics

Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.

Get started with Oil Paints

Starting out with Oils can be a daunting prospect, but with just a few basics you can unlock the potential of this rich and exciting medium.
In this beginners workshop we will be getting to grips with oil painting. You will gain understanding of the paints, learn about colour mixing and basic application techniques, and receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own still life painting.

Mastering Reflections | Large Scale Charcoal Drawing

In this workshop we will be getting messy with large-scale charcoal drawings.
Working at A1 in scale we will be looking at reflection and the refraction of light on glass as well studying the way in which glass objects interact with positive and negative space.
