Ornate Butterfly Sculpture | Printmaking & Fused Glass Masterclass
@ The Court Street Gallery, Trowbridge
Next Date TBC, £99
(£89 for Art Session Members and Friends of The Court Street Gallery -
Combining printmaking and fused glass, in this masterclass you will be guided through a range of techniques by experienced tutors Alex Compton, of Compton Glass Workshops and Cath Siswick, to create your own ornate glass butterfly sculpture.

Suitable for beginners in this workshop you will be starting with the basics, considering colour theory, and learning how to cut and shape glass, as well as how to print using lino cut, sgraffito and stencils, before exploring a range of additional methods of printmaking and fused glass embellishments.

Suitable for all abilities - come and have a go!

Overview of the day
At 10am we will start with welcomes, introductions and an overview of the day.

We will plan how the different layers of the sculpture will work together. Learning about colour theory and creating templates you will have the opportunity to customise the shapes of some of the layers, select which glass you want to use and design your prints.

The group will split in two, with half working with Cath in order to create a print plate ready to lino print, and half working with Alex to cut and shape the glass.

11:30am (ish) - Break for a hot drink.

Once refuelled the two groups will swap.

1:00pm - Lunch break. There are a variety of cafes within a short walk from the gallery or feel free to bring a packed lunch.

After lunch we will regroup to cover a few more embellishments, including sgraffito, stencil/template printing, and a variety of decorative fused glass techniques, before spending a relaxing afternoon completing your layers. Hot drinks will be available as and when required.

3:45pm - We will collect in your pieces ready for firing and clear down our work stations.

4pm - End of the day.

Please give one week for firing before returning to collect your sculpture.

Pointillism in Acrylics
Sun, 18 August, 13:30 – 16:30
The Court Street Gallery, Trowbridge
Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.
